Following the controversial remarks made by university employee Uju Anya, on the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Carnegie Mellon University has made a formal statement. When asked about Anya’s offensive and objectionable messages, Carnegie Mellon University responded that it “does not condone” them. Many people have called for Anya to be fired or suspended.
The highly controversial statements made by school Professor Uju Anya are not acceptable to Carnegie Mellon University and will not be tolerated, supported, or condoned by the institution. Anya’s comments were formally addressed in a statement that was shared on the school’s official Twitter account.
“We do not condone the offensive and objectionable messages posted by Uju Anya today on her personal social media account. Free expression is core to the mission of higher education, however, the views she shared absolutely do not represent the values of the institution, nor the standards of discourse we seek to foster,” the statement read.
Twitter removed a number of tweets from Uju Anya after receiving a ton of criticism, notably from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
Some of the tweets are;
“I heard the chief monarch of a thieving raping genocidal empire is finally dying. May her pain be excruciating.”
Another tweet that was also removed from Anya said, “That wretched woman and her bloodthirsty throne have f**ked generations of my ancestors on both sides of the family, and she supervised a government that sponsored the genocide my parents and siblings survived. May she die in agony.”
In light of Uju Anya’s messages, Carnegie Mellon University has not yet made it known publicly if it intends to take any disciplinary action against her.
