It’s with heavy hearts that we report the news of the death of Jerry Rawlings, a famous Ghanaian leader. Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings died on Thursday the 12th of November 2020; of complications from COVID-19, according to BBC reports.
Its not known yet how he contracted the disease, but the former president buried his mother not long ago; and speculations posit that he may have gotten infected with the coronavirus from the burial ceremony.
The former Ghanaian leader who was aged 73years; died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after being on admission at the hospital for about a week.
Jerry Rawlings ruled the West African country of Ghana; for a brief period in 1979, and then from 1981 to 2001.
In November 2000, Rawlings was named the first International Year of Volunteers 2001 Eminent Person; by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Also, In October 2010, Rawlings was named African Union envoy to Somalia.
Rawlings has always been very vocal about African unity and the restoration of Africa’s Glory.
He is survived by his wife; Nana Konadu Agyeman, his three daughters; Zanetor Rawlings, Yaa Asantewaa Rawlings, Amina Rawlings; and one son, Kimathi Rawlings.
His death is a big blow to the people of Ghana and Africa as a whole. We are sending prayers of fortitude and condolence to his family and the people of Ghana.
