It has now been revealed nearly six and a half months after Coolio’s untimely death that fentanyl played a significant role in his death.
According to TMZ, Coolio’s longtime manager, Jarez Posey, stated that the family received the news from the coroner only recently.
In addition to fentanyl, a synthetic opioid implicated in the deaths of celebrities such as Michael K. Williams and Mac Miller, the “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper was found to have traces of heroin and methamphetamines in his system.
Posey adds that Coolio’s health was harmed further by severe asthma and years of cigarette smoking.
Posey notes, however, that the rapper’s children—Brandi, Jackie, Melan, Christopher, Artis III, Darius, and Artisha—are dedicated to honoring his legacy. In fact, Coolio’s family is reportedly planning to honor him through future projects.
Coolio was discovered dead in Los Angeles in September 2022 while visiting a friend. The 59-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, but no official cause of death was given at the time.
