Rapper Snoop Dogg is set to be one of the final torchbearers before the Olympic opening ceremony on Friday. The 52-year-old music icon will carry the torch through the northern Paris suburb of Saint-Denis, as announced by the town’s mayor, Mathieu Hanotin, on X (formerly Twitter).
In addition to his prestigious role as a torchbearer, Snoop Dogg will also serve as a correspondent for NBC’s Olympic Games coverage. He confirmed his arrival in Paris with an enthusiastic post on Tuesday, featuring a photo captioned, “U ready? Paris 2024 Olympics ya digggg.”

The Olympic torch has been traveling across France for the past two months, with approximately 10,000 individuals selected to carry the flame. Snoop Dogg’s participation adds a unique flair to this historic relay.
Joining Snoop Dogg as torchbearers on Friday will be French actress Laetitia Casta, French rapper MC Solaar, and retired Ukrainian pole-vaulter Sergey Bubka, according to Mayor Hanotin.

The opening ceremony, set to be a spectacular event, will feature a nearly four-hour procession on the River Seine. Dozens of boats will transport thousands of Olympic athletes to the Eiffel Tower, culminating in the lighting of the Olympic cauldron. The identity of the individual chosen to light the cauldron remains a closely guarded secret, adding to the anticipation surrounding the event.

The president of the Paris 2024 organizing committee revealed that even the selected individual is unaware of their role in lighting the cauldron. The location of the cauldron itself is also being kept under wraps until the grand reveal on Friday, with possible sites including the Eiffel Tower and the Tuileries Gardens outside the Louvre Museum.
The inclusion of Snoop Dogg in the Olympic festivities not only highlights the global and diverse nature of the Games but also promises an unforgettable start to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
