We previously reported that the body of popular kenyan lgbtq activist, Edwin Chiloba was found in a metal box. Preliminary police reports indicate that the slain celebrated model and LGBTQ activist Edwin Chiloba died from strangulation.
Uasin Gishu Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer Peter Kimulwa said that there were no physical injuries on Chiloba’s body suggesting that he might have been choked to death. Kimulwa added that the fashionista’s killers also gouged out his eyes. “Apart from the eyes being gouged out, there were no physical injuries on the body, suggesting that the victim might have died out of choking,” said Kimulwa as quoted by Nation.
On January 7, Jackton Odhiambo, Chiloba’s boyfriend, admitted to killing the model. On December 31, 2022, Chiloba, Jackton, and an additional unnamed male went out to celebrate and usher in the New Year in Eldoret’s Tamasha nightclub. The three enjoyed themselves and shared videos, but upon returning home, neighbors reported hearing a ruckus inside the house for a while before it all fell silent.
The body of Chiloba was discovered in Kapsiret, Eldoret, on January 3, 2023, hidden inside a metal box. The couple had been living together for a year, and according to the caretaker of the apartment, Chiloba lived there alone for three years until Jackton moved in with him in 2022.
According to Citizen TV, Langas police station OCPD revealed that Jackton told the police he killed Chiloba, claiming he was unfaithful in their relationship.
Before the body was identified, the residents of the Mogombet area, Kapseret, Uasin Gishu county had been left confused after encountering the isolated box. According to area village elder Barnabas Cheruiyot, a boda boda rider spotted a vehicle dropping the metallic box along the Kipenyo-Kaptinga road.
“The operator got suspicious of the metal box that the car had just dropped. He came and reported the matter to Simat chief who sent police officers,” said Cheruiyot. When police officers arrived at the scene, they opened the metal box, black in colour only to find a decomposing body inside. Initially, the body had been thought to be that of a woman but after a thorough check by the officers, it was discovered to be that of a man, in ‘womanish’ clothes.
