The Songwriters Hall of Fame is gearing up to honor Solána Imani Rowe, known professionally as SZA, with the prestigious Hal David Starlight Award, recognizing outstanding young songwriters. At just 34 years old, SZA joins an illustrious list of previous recipients, including Taylor Swift, Post Malone, and Alicia Keys.
The Hal David Starlight Award, established in 2004, celebrates emerging talents in the music industry who have made significant contributions with their original compositions. SZA’s selection marks a significant moment as she becomes only the second Black woman to receive this esteemed honor, following in the footsteps of Alicia Keys, who was recognized in 2005.

The four-time Grammy winner will be formally acknowledged at the 53rd Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Dinner on Thursday, June 13, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. Expressing her gratitude on Instagram, SZA shared, “This is THE most meaningful thing to me. You have NO idea. THANK YOU beyond words for seeing me at all.”
Nile Rodgers, chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, praised SZA’s exceptional talent and influence in the music industry, stating, “Incredible songwriting, incredible performances, incredible artistry. She so deserves to be the 2024 recipient of the Hal David Starlight Award!”
