2018 is a wrap and we have moved ahead into the New Year 2019. Usually before the New Year individuals set goals and write down resolutions. The amazing thing about resolutions is that before the end of the first quarter most people have found a way to drop them and return to their old lives. The cycle continues.

There are so many expectations about the New Year and topping the list for 90% of the lot is being successful at the end of the year. Yvette D. Clarke, Brooklyn Congresswoman spoke at the Success Super which holds annually to celebrate that have impacted positively on their community.

Clarke sits as co-chair of the Congressional Black Caucus of black girls and women. She identified five keys to success in 2019 which we thought might be helpful in achieving that goal of being successful at the end of this year. Check them out.

Evaluate your network

“Your network is your net worth.” Your circle matters a lot so you must ask yourself the question, who makes up my network? As humans, we have one challenge which is trust. It is disturbing that what most of us focus on is worth, which is really not the crux of our existence. She also advised blacks to patronize more black entrepreneurs.

Use your influence

As blacks, we are very influential. We have so much influence that there is hardly a new trend started without having blacks at the very center. We must begin to use this influence to our advantage.

Trust your abilities

Have some faith in yourself and your innate abilities. You’ve got to stop looking down on yourself and begin looking inwards for what energy you can churn out to produce something of value. Understand yourself, for in that knowledge lies the key to leadership.

Know your niche

Understanding yourself allows you to figure out where exactly you belong. Not everyone is going to do sports or write a bestseller. Staying in your niche is the easiest way to rise above the storm.

Remain focused

You definitely have goals written down with plans on how to achieve them. Neglect every form of distraction, stay on course until you hit the mark. It might take a while but consistency that comes with being focused gets you there just in time.
