Deadline confirms that an animated Everybody Hates Chris reboot is currently in development. Chris Rock will narrate the reboot as he did with the original series, but not much is known yet about the casting otherwise. The series is currently in the works at CBS but it has not received an official green light yet.

The first season of the show initially aired on UPN as a chronicle of Chris Rock’s teenage years and coming of age. After switching over to the CW in 2007, the show ran for three more seasons.

While Everybody Hates Chris may not have had a legendary run on television, it was beloved by many and remained popular when it was picked up by Nick at Nite after it went off the air. The show certainly feels relevant for today’s world. It comes soon after the Black Lives Matter movement and the push for diverse representation and social change. It also had a social impact during its original run, as it was an obvious parody of Everybody Loves RaymondThe transition to an animated series will also give a new and unique tone to the cherished sitcom. And with Rock still attached, the upcoming reboot is sure to deliver the laughs just as the original did.

Both the original co-creator of the show, Ali LeRoi and executive producer, Michael Rotenberg have signed onto the animated reboot.
