A lot of tribute has been pouring out for the trailblazer Hollywood director, producer, and screenwriter. John Singleton passed away at the Cedars-Sinai medical center in Los Angeles on Monday, April 29, 201, after been in the intensive care unit of the hospital from suffering a stroke earlier on April 17. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family and close friends. The family thanked the doctors at Cedars-Sinai hospital and also thanked fans, friends, and colleagues for the love and support in a statement released by Deadline. The statement reads thus
“We want to thank the amazing doctors at Cedars-Sinai hospital for their expert care and kindness and we again want to thank all of John’s favorite fans, friends, and colleagues for all the love and support they showed him during this difficult times”
He became prominent in the ’90s as a unique and fast-rising African-American director after his 1991 debut with ‘Boyz n the Hood’. The movie was greatly criticized and praised. As a young man born in Los Angeles on January 6, 1968, he was the youngest and first black man at that time to be a Movie director.
The movie was set in Crenshaw, Los Angeles and follows the life of 3 young black men dealing with various issues ranging from violence, life crisis, racism to relationship crisis. The movie shows the kind of things that happens in a black community.
