The Vice President of The Gambia, Dr. Isatou Touray, has tested positive for Coronavirus the Gambia Government announced through its various social media sites Yesterday.
“The Office of the President informs the public that Her Excellency, the Vice President, Dr. Isatou Touray, has been tested positive of COVID-19. Consequently, the President, Adama Barrow, will be on self-isolation with immediate effect for two weeks,” a statement from the government contains.
Many Gambians are not convinced about the realities of Covid-19. Many continue to fault the preventive regulations introduced by the government.
In its message to the public, the government urged the public to take the pandemic seriously. “The public is reminded that the Coronavirus is real and exists in The Gambia. The public is advised to properly use face masks, maintain regular hand washing and social distancing in the fight against the virus.”
The Gambia’s airspace has been closed, except for cargo flights. The land border with Senegal is also closed, except for security personnel and the passage of essential supplies.
Anyone entering The Gambia is subject to a 14-day quarantine requirement in a designated Government facility.
Additional surveillance and detection mechanisms have been put in place at Banjul International Airport and various points of entry along The Gambia’s border.
