Shariff Ali Shariff, Zanzibar’s investment minister, compared the proposed studio to those in Hollywood, Nollywood, and Bollywood. “The studio could lead to the creation of ‘Zollywood,’” Shariff commented, humorously debating potential names like ‘Zollywood’ or ‘Zawood.’
A spokesperson for President Samia emphasized the project’s potential benefits, stating, “If successful, the project will benefit not only Tanzania but also eastern and central Africa.” The establishment of this studio is expected to unlock vast opportunities, showcasing Africa’s abundant talent and creating numerous jobs within the region.

Status of Elba’s Ghana Studio Project
In addition to the new development in Tanzania, Idris Elba has also been working on a similar project in West Africa, specifically Ghana. In February 2023, Elba mentioned plans for what he tentatively called West African Studios. He revealed that the project had been in the works for three to four years. However, since that announcement, there have been few updates on the Ghana studio, leading to speculation about its current status in light of the new Tanzanian project.
