Lauren Keyana “Keke” Palmer was born August 26, 1993. She is an American actress, singer, songwriter, and television personality. Palmer was born in Harvey, Illinois, and raised in Robbins, Illinois. She released her debut album, So Uncool, on September 18, 2007, through Atlantic Records. The album failed to chart on the US Billboard 200 but did chart at number 85 on the R&B chart. The album was preceded by the second single “Keep It Movin'”.
Keke Palmer made her acting debut in the 2004 film Barbershop 2: Back in Business and rose to prominence in 2006 for her breakthrough role in Akeelah and the Bee as well as starring in Madea’s Family Reunion. Keke Palmer was on the frontlines of a peaceful demonstration in Hollywood on the 2nd of June 2020.
The actress spoke passionately to several members of the National Guard who were at the scene, asking them to march alongsideprotesters and telling them to “be the change” in the fight against racial injustice following the killing of George Floyd.
“We have people here that need your help,” Palmer said in a video Tweeted by NBC News correspondent Gadi Schwartz. “This is when y’all stand together with the community, with society, to stop the governmental oppression. Period. We need you, so march with us.”
She continued: “March with us. March beside us. Get your people. March beside us. Let the revolution be televised. March beside us and show us that you’re here for us. Let’s just do it. We start marching and you march with us. Make history with us, please.”
A guard member offered to walk with the group across an intersection, but said they needed to remain at their post.
“March with us, it will send a huge message,” Palmer said, “You’re the protector. If you’re supposed to be patrolling us, then walk with us.”
Another protester is heard asking the guardsmen to take a knee, and they do.
Keke Palmer On Racism
Palmer also shared her thoughts about systematic racism in a video posted to Instagram.
“At 26, I’m looking out and witnessing a physical revolt, and it’s a revolt on a scale that I wasn’t sure I’d ever see. To those that may not be looking close enough, all they will see is looting, or people who don’t really care about the movement, or anarchy without a movement. But what I see is a society responding to the oppressor about how the oppressor has responded to us,” Palmer said.
“Racism is what the country was built on: Slavery, systematic oppression, then voter oppression, female oppression, poor education system so you’re intentionally uninformed, financial oppression,” she continued. “Human beings can only take so much. American needs government reform that demand legislations and new laws that birth the future for our kids. We deserve a new system because the old one was created to oppress us.”

…Sometimes, going against authority is the only remedy for change, especially when we have seen, too often, those authority figures step over the line. So where do you draw the line? How do you know to draw the line? Is there a line?
I chose to join the protests in Los Angeles to bring as much awareness as we can to the injustices in America and fight against white supremacy and what it does to our nation. At one point, I spoke with National Guardsmen who were preventing us from marching past a certain point and challenged them to march with us. In my wildest dreams, they would all march with us without risk of punishment, in the same way that if the whole class walks out of school, no one gets detention for it. If enough of them felt moved to do this, it would offer so much inspiration and impact the movement in such a meaningful way.
I have waited for a revolution, I believe, my entire life. I feel it’s like this for many millennials; messages about following rules and staying in line have since evolved into calls to ostand up and get others to stand with you, to challenge authority and recognize different life experiences while gathering with others who are like-minded.

Keke Palmer works with the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of the American charity Cool To Be Smart program, speaking to children about the importance of learning. She is also a supporter of Urban Farming and the Girl Scouts. Furthermore, She has worked with such charities as the YWCAand with Saving Our Daughters.
