Karonga
This the premier lakeside town lying along the road running towards the Northern part of Tanzania. It is not really recognized as a tourist attraction on paper, in reality, it attracts tons of visitors yearly. In the 19th century, it was a hub for the slave trade. The museum here is home to the historic skeleton of the Malawisaurus dinosaur. The distance between the city of Karonga and Mzuzu is 226 kilometers.
Nyika National Park
This park sits right in the midst of Rumphi district, on the Khondowe Plateau. The Nyika National Park, with an area of 3,200 kilometers, is the largest park in Malawi. The park with hundreds of animals and over 425 species of birds. It is a major tourist attraction in Malawi and even the whole of Central Africa.
Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve
This wildlife reserve is located very close to the Zambian border and it is a great destination for bird watchers. The 400-km area is covered with dense forest and marshland and a large variety of animals which gather around the Lake Kazuni in the dry season. The reserve also has over 300 species of birds present. It is not one of the most popular parks, it has, however, become a haven for avid bird watchers.
Lake Malawi
The Lake Malawi is about the brightest jewel in the Malawian crown. It has a depth of 300 meters and an area of 29,600 kilometers. It also has a reputation as the third largest African lake and one of the largest in the world. It used to be referred to as Lake Nyasa, a name given to it by David Livingstone, the famous missionary explorer.
Majete Wildlife reserve
A lot of wildlife have been reintroduced to this reserve since 2003, some of them include the black rhino, leopard, and elephant. The reserve is under the administration of Malawi Department of National Parks and Wildlife and African Parks. The beautiful reserve is located at the base of the Shire Valley.
Mount Mulanje
This mountain is a great destination for hikers and mountain climbers. The peak of the mountain at 3,000 meters is the highest in South-Central Africa. The surrounding area accommodates the Mulanje Golf Club, sprawling tea estates, and Likhubula Forest Reserve.
Zomba Plateau
The plateau has an area of 130 kilometers with lush valleys great for agriculture. Zomba itself is a great town for trading agricultural materials. It was the seat of the British Administration of Nyasaland in the 19th century. It is a great destination for lovers and honeymooners, hikers, and fun-seekers. Zomba is a truly historical town, a mix of history with nature’s beauty.
