If you know anything about beauty pageants then you will know that the Miss Universe pageant is the Avengers: Infinity War of world pageantry. The beauty pageant was aired for three hours on Fox on Sunday and as usual not everyone was smiling after the event.
This year Steve Harvey, famous for crowning the wrong Miss Universe in 2015, was back as host of the pageant. This year a new record was set for number of participants, 94 contestants from as many countries took part in the prestigious event. Harvey’s jacket was designed with a jewel for each contestant, amazing right?
The feature performance of the night was by renowned songwriter, producer and musician, Ne-Yo. Running commentaries throughout the duration of the show were runway coach, Lu Sierra, Supermodel Ashley Graham, and Carsson Kressley.
Shortly into the show the judges carefully narrowed down the women to 20 from 94 by selecting five each from the Americas, Asia/Africa, and Europe. To fill up the final five were five wild cards to choose from across the continents. To further reduce the group of 20, half of them were subjected to evening gown and swimsuits rounds. After this the number was halved to 10.
The final ten, in no particular order, include:
Miss Philippines (Catriona Gray)
Miss Vietnam (H’Hen Nie)
Miss Venezuela (Sthefany Gutierrez)
Soon after the number was again halved to five. This final set passed through a Q&A session with the show host, Steve Harvey. After the Q&A session the winners were announced in this order:
Fourth/Fifth Place: Miss Vietnam and Miss Puerto Rico
Third Place: Miss Venezuela
Second Place: Miss South Africa
Miss Universe 2018: Miss Philippines
