WNBA sensation Brittney Griner and her wife Cherelle delighted fans over the weekend with the announcement of their first child, due to arrive in July.

The couple shared the joyful news on Instagram, posting a heartwarming photo holding hands and featuring their unborn baby’s ultrasound.

In the caption of Saturday’s post, Cherelle expressed her excitement, writing, “Can’t believe we’re less than three months away from meeting our favorite human being 🤍 #BabyGrinerComingSoon #July2024.”

Griner, 33, and Cherelle, former students at Baylor University from 2009 to 2013, reconnected romantically in subsequent years and tied the knot in 2019. Their journey to parenthood comes after a challenging period, marked by Griner’s detainment in Russia in February 2022 on drug smuggling charges.

During her time in Russia, Griner, a two-time Olympic champion, played for the women’s basketball team UMMC Ekaterinburg during the WNBA offseason. However, her arrest and subsequent nine-year sentence in a Russian penal colony shocked the sports world. Griner was eventually released in December 2022 following a one-for-one prisoner swap.

Reflecting on the emotional rollercoaster of Griner’s detainment and release, Cherelle shared her relief and happiness upon learning of her wife’s return. She expressed gratitude for being able to finally exhale and embrace the moment together.

Despite the challenges they faced during Griner’s absence, Cherelle highlighted their commitment to supporting each other’s journey and taking things slow as they navigate this new chapter together. Their bond has grown stronger through adversity, and they are looking forward to welcoming their first child as they continue to build their family.

Brittney Griner and Cherelle’s announcement has been met with an outpouring of love and support from fans and well-wishers, as they embark on this exciting journey into parenthood.
