The Catholic Parish in Ghana recently commissioned a statue which has caused a huge outrage by some Ghanaians on social media. They see the statue of a white angel standing over a black devil with his sword drawn as racist.

The angel is a hybrid of a Roman centurion and one of Marvel’s superheroes. The angel traps the afro-haired devil under his feet. The statue was erected at Brong Region of Ghana and a picture of the statue went viral on social media after Yaw Amoffaya Antwi called upon the Tepa Catholic Grotto to take it down.

He described the statue as disgusting and a depiction of mental slavery. Several other critics have aired their view about the statue saying Africans have had to battle such for several decades after colonial rule. Some others have spoken in the opposite saying it is not racist and color is not a factor to enter into heaven.

The Ghanaian population is predominantly Christian with about 71.2% of which Catholics make up 13.1%.
