Comedy Central is set to breathe new life into the beloved 2000s sitcom “Everybody Hates Chris” with an animated revival titled “Everybody Still Hates Chris.” This new iteration will feature the return of original cast members, including Chris Rock, Terry Crews, and Tichina Arnold, who will reprise their roles in voice form.

Chris Rock, who narrated the original live-action series and served as an executive producer, will continue his role as the voice of adult Chris. Rock will bring to life stories inspired by his own experiences growing up as a skinny nerd in a large working-class family in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, during the late 1980s.

Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold will return to voice Julius and Rochelle, Chris’ parents. Julius, played by Crews, is described as a gentle giant with a relentless work ethic and a penchant for being frugal. Arnold’s Rochelle is a smart, strong-willed mother who tolerates no nonsense and is fiercely protective of her children.

The animated revival was first announced in August 2022 and is produced by CBS Studios, Chris Rock Enterprises, and 3 Arts Entertainment. “Everybody Still Hates Chris” is scheduled to premiere on Comedy Central later this year and will also be available on Paramount+ at a later date.

“I’m very excited to introduce the world to another funny side of my childhood,” Rock said in a statement.

In addition to the returning cast, the new series will feature a fresh ensemble of voice actors. Tim Johnson Jr. will play young Chris, Ozioma Akagha will voice Chris’ sister Tonya, Terrence Little Gardenhigh will take on the role of Drew, and Gunnar Sizemore will voice Greg, Chris’s only friend at school.

The original “Everybody Hates Chris” series, which aired from 2005 to 2009, was a critical success, receiving several Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and winning an NAACP Image Award for writing in 2007. The show depicted a humorous and heartfelt take on Rock’s adolescence and the challenges he faced growing up.

Rock’s recent work includes roles in “Rustin” and Season 4 of “Fargo,” as well as his live Netflix stand-up special “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage.” Terry Crews recently wrapped up an eight-season run on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and currently hosts “America’s Got Talent.” Tichina Arnold continues her successful career, entering her seventh season on CBS’ “The Neighborhood.”

The new animated series aims to capture the essence of the original while introducing it to a new generation. “I wanted this job to get free tickets to a Chris Rock stand-up show, but we ended up making something we’re proud of that is true to the original series we all loved,” said showrunner and executive producer Sanjay Shah.

“Everybody Still Hates Chris” is produced by CBS’ Eye Animation Productions with Titmouse, known for “Big Mouth,” serving as the animation studio. Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina will also executive produce alongside Rock, Shah, Ali LeRoi, and 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg and Dave Becky.

Fans of the original series and new viewers alike can look forward to the continuation of Chris Rock’s nostalgic and humorous storytelling with “Everybody Still Hates Chris” later this year on Comedy Central.
