On Sunday Cicely Tyson climaxed her Hollywood career with an amazing milestone as she became the first black woman to win an honorary Oscar.

Cicely turns 94 next month yet she blew us away in her beautiful metallic dress and shiny silver gloves. She looked dashing as ever, as she let her hair fall to her chin level. She indeed gave fabulous a meaning as she received the honorary award.

Cicely has had an iconic career spanning several decades. She had worked on several successful Hollywood projects like Diary of a Mad Black Woman, The Help, The heart is a lonely hunter and Fried Green Tomatoes.

The award was presented to Tyson by Quincy Jones, Ava DuVernay and Tyler Perry. DuVernay commented by saying about Tyson, “she is the seed for so many of us, the rose that we adore.” Quincy Jones went further to state, “Her work, grace, dignity, class, humility and profound professionalism firmly placed her on the pedestal of Hollywood royalty, and now, at long last, I could not be more honored to say that tonight, Cicely Tyson receives her more than well-deserved Oscar.”

In her acceptance speech, Cicely said, “I don’t know that I would cherish a better gift. This is the culmination of all those years of haves and have not.” Oprah Winfrey who shared a table with Tyson at the event couldn’t hold back her excitement saying, “Ms. Cicely Tyson’s getting a long overdue Oscar!”
