After about 3 centuries apart, this comedic thriller is making a comeback in the theatres for a sequel and we can’t wait!!!!
It’s a beautiful reunion as stars of Coming to America make a comeback for the sequel movie.
We all remember this fantastic film that was released in 1988 and I don’t think we’ve gotten over it. I recall watching it as a kid and the memories of it are very much alive in me. Now, they’re bringing it back for a second time!!!
Paramount released in a statement that Craig Brewer will be directing Coming to America 2. While Kevin Misher and Eddie Murphy will be handling the production of the movie. Black-ish writer, Kenya Barris was unanimously chosen by the writers of the first film as the new script writer for the sequel. In a statement released by Hollywood Reporter, Paramount has also revealed the release date to be 18th December, 2020.
Eddie Murphy who was the main actor in the first movie back in 1988 said, “After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward. We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen”.
Coming to America 2 will also feature amazing stars like Tracy Morgan, Wesley Snipes, Tracy Morgan, James Earl Jones, Paul Bates, Kiki Layne, Jermaine Fowler, including Saturday Night Live star, Leslie Jones.
South African Actress, activist and our Fashionista for the month, Nomzamo Mbatha, has also joined the cast of Coming to America 2. She and Garcelle are the latest on the list of cast members for the sequel movie.

PLOT
Akeem (Eddie Murphy) learns he has a long lost son in the United States and must return to America to meet the unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda (IMDb).
In the first film released in 1988, Akeem left the Kingdom of Zamunda to search for his better half in America. He also traveled discreetly with his accomplice, Semmi (Arsenio Hall). Arsenio played four different roles – Semmi, Morris, Extremely Ugly Girl and Reverend Brown. He is set to maintain these roles in the sequel too.
Apart from the storyline, I look forward to the beautiful showcase of the richness of African culture including the wardrobe. Award-winning designer, Ruth E. Carter, is the costume designer for the upcoming movie. She is also the “fashion genius” behind Black Panther’s wardrobe. So, that’s definitely something to look forward too. As for the comedic feels, I am quite convinced we are in for it, with Eddie and Arsenio in the mix.
Some photos were released showing the cast on set for the upcoming film. Eddie Murphy was seen in a royal costume with a script. Arsenio Hall was also seen dressed as one of his interesting characters- Reverend Brown.
CONCLUSION
