Dave Chappelle returned to the stage on Thursday, May 5th, and opened up about his recent on-stage attack, revealing that he spoke with the man who tackled him.
Chappelle said he convinced the LAPD to let him speak to Isaiah Lee on Tuesday night, shortly after the attack but before he was hauled away, while performing at the Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California.
“I needed to talk to him,”Dave Chappelle said, in order to figure out Lee’s motivation. And the comedian received an answer: the attack was designed to draw attention to his grandmother, who had been forced out of her neighborhood due to gentrification.

At one point, Rock joined Chappelle onstage, and the two made light of the incident at the Netflix Is A Joke Festival. “At least you got smacked by someone of repute,” Chappelle joked to Rock, referring to Will Smith’s Oscars slap. “I got smacked by a homeless man with leaves in his hair!” “I got smacked by the softest ni**a that ever rapped,” Rock responded. This was the second time Rock had mentioned Smith since Chappelle’s attack.
