Famous rapper and music mogul, Sean “Diddy” Combs has confessed that though he sees himself as a good father, he has only been on the role part-time. He gives the credit to his ex-girlfriend, Kim Porter, who passed on last November, Misa Hylton, and Sarah Chapman for filling the parenting role better.

Porter died at the age of 47 leaving a huge void that Diddy had to work very hard to fill especially with caring for the twins, who were 11-years-old at the time. Kim is said to have brought stability to the home, caring for all the kids and ensuring things went smoothly at the different family gatherings to bring them all together.

According to the rapper, he has had to take on a fulltime parenting role since her death. He says he even still hears her voice telling him to spend more time with the kids and this has made him more present in their lives.

In his interview with ESSENCE, he also discussed how he was able to manage the situation of his kids hearing about Porter’s death over social media first. He shared what she said to him before her death and how he feels her spirit is helping the family to cope now that she’s gone.

MoAna Luu, the Chief Content Officer at ESSENCE said it meant a lot to the magazine that Diddy trusted them enough to share these intricate details of his life and family with them. Diddy covered the May issue of the magazine with his children.
