It’s been almost 35 years since “Coming to America” first hit our screens. Guess what, Eddie Murphy just announced that the long-awaited sequel is in the pipeline. According to the comedian, “Coming to America 2” is finally a go, after a very long waiting period.
“Prince Akeem” went on to announce that a team was already assembled to work on the project, the team is to be led by Craig Brewer. The actor definitely can’t wait to bring this amazing team together to begin work on the project.
The sequel will be produced by Murphy alongside Kevin Misher. Working on the script is the creator of Black-ish, Kenya Barris, who is also the Executive Producer of the movie. The original writers of Coming to America are David Sheffield and Barry Blaustein.
In the sequel, Murphy retains his role as Prince Akeem but this time he will be traveling to America searching for his lost son instead of his queen. To make the project worthwhile and special Paramount is planning a reunion of the original cast which includes James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, Arsenio Hall, and John Amos. Production work is expected to kick off before the end of the year.
