The Caribbean country, Guyana, has received the award of the “best ecotourism destination in the world.” The award was presented to Brian Mullis, Guyana’s Director of Tourism at the ITB Travel fair in Berlin.
The “Best of Top 100” awards reviews a hundred top destinations in the world. The review is carried out by top travel experts from all over the world. The Best Ecotourism category was added to this year’s award list. This is the second time the awards ceremony is being held. Asides Guyana, other destinations in the category include the Galapagos Islands, Tmatboey of Cambodia, and Sierra Gorda in Mexico.
Mullis said it was an honor for Guyana to receive the award after investing so much in ecotourism in the last few years. Albert Salman, who heads the Green Destinations Foundations, said the jury was impressed Guyana’s submission. This was the reason why the country won the award ahead of others.
Guyana has also been labeled as the top “must-see” destination for travelers. So many airlines have begun trips to the country from different parts of the world on a daily basis. The country is also the first to adopt the International Adventure Travel Guide Qualification and Performance Standards. The standards were set by the Adventure Travel Trade Association.
