A new project that will pilot the adoption of renewable energy in Guyana’s agricultural sector is set to unfold in the last half of 2019. The project is sponsored by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture, Organization of American States, and the Guyana Power and Light Inc.
This project will also ensure that offices belonging to the IICS and OAS are powered up. The project aims at making people involved in the agricultural sector of the importance to efficiently use natural resources. The initiative is an offshoot of Guyana’s Green State Development Strategy that was launched in 2018. This program was designed to bring positive change to the management of the country’s energy leading to a model that will address the trade and climate challenges faced by the nation.
The country’s Minister of Agriculture, Noel Holder, emphasized the importance of renewable energy in different sectors of Guyana’s economy. He said the citizens of the country will soon begin to see the advantages of its application.
The IICA representative to Guyana in his submission said that very soon the markets will be more competitive because of the adaptation of this sort of energy, which is cheaper in the long run. This will, in turn, expand both local and export markets considerably.
This idea, along with several others that will lead Guyana to economic, environmental, and social development was first proposed in January 2018.
