Apple is contributing efforts in the fight against police brutality. A new Siri shortcut couldn’t come at a better time. According to reports, Apple iPhone users have a shortcut that allows Siri to; automatically record their encounter with police if they tell her they’re being pulled over.
@CNN reports, a newly discovered shortcut is gaining in popularity and hopefully can give many a sense of security during encounters with the police. By simply saying, “Hey Siri, I’m getting pulled over,” an iPhone shortcut; which must first be installed—will pause any music that you’re playing, turn down the brightness of your phone; turn on the “Do Not Disturb” mode to block any incoming calls, open up your front-facing camera and then start a video recording.
That’s not all, a message will also be sent to a pre-designated contact to let them know that you’re being pulled over; as well as your current location. Once the recording ends, a copy of the video is sent to your pre-designated contact; and gives you the option to send it to your iCloud or Dropbox.
The “Police” shortcut was initially created back in 2018 by Redditor Robert Petersen; but it has just been updated and is now known as the “I’m being pulled over” shortcut.
“I just wanted a way for anyone to have proof of their version of events; in the unlikely scenario that something unexpected happens during a police interaction,”; Petersen previously told local media outlets last year. “And if 1 in 10,000 people find my shortcut useful at all I’d be glad.”
