Jamaica is definitely making great returns from its tourism sector as reported by the country’s Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett. Bartlett said this year sees his country get the highest number of visitors it has seen in the first four months of the year. The figures stand at 1.7 million and together they spent a total of $1.25 billion.
He said from the beginning of the year to April 30 they have experienced a double-digit increase in figures monthly. He also said the tourism sector had by far smashed the desired record of five percent growth per annum which was set three years ago.
He said the whole of last year, the country had 4.23 million visitors who together spent $3.3 billion. This figure was an increment of 8.6% of what was experienced in 2017.
This is a huge improvement on the figures obtained between 2013 and 2015 when the increment per year was just a meager 120,000 visitors.
You will recall that Jamaica made a series of investments in its tourism sector over the last three years as it sought to kick start a boom in the sector.
