US Senator, Kamala Harris, representing Chicago was born to an Indian mother and a Jamaican father. The distinguished senator has just declared her intention to run for the office of President of the United States in 2020 under the auspices of the Democratic Party.

She was on the Good Morning America show yesterday to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King day when she declared her intention to run. The 54-year-old Senator said in plain words, that she is running for the seat of the President and she is very excited to do so.

She is one among many females who have declared their intention to give incumbent President, Donald Trump, a run for his money as they intend to replace him at the highest seat of government in the US. Other women on this same boat include Senator Kirsten Gillibrand from New York and Senator Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts.

Prior to declaring her intention, Senator Harris has served in several capacities. She worked her way through the California legal system, gaining experience as a prosecutor for 20 years before becoming the San Francisco District Attorney. She set a new record as both the first woman and first African-American to seat as the California attorney general. The November 2016 elections saw her set yet another record as the first South-Asian woman and the second woman of African-American origin to be elected into the US Senate.
