Jussie Smollett, famous for his role on Empire as Jamal, was attached in the early hours of Tuesday in Chicago. Sources said the attack can be described as a hate crime, basically racial and homophobic in nature. Sources say he was accosted by two white men ranting racist and anti-gay slurs at him.
Afterward, the men put his head in a noose and poured a liquid, most likely bleach, on him, before screaming on the top of their voices, “this is MAGA country.” The actor rushed himself to the hospital where he was hospitalized, though he was discharged later on Tuesday morning. Smollett is said to have fractured one of his ribs as a result of the attack from the men who wore ski masks.
Fox studios told TMZ that they had received a letter about a week before the attack threatening to kill Smollet after calling him a black fag. The Chicago PD has given their word that they are taking the incident very seriously and are investigating the crime to get to the root of it and arrest the perpetrators.
Fox Studios have also released an official statement showing support for the Empire star and stating their readiness to ensure that the crime is fully investigated and the offenders brought to book.
