Lance Reddick, the star of ‘The Wire’ and ‘John Wick,’ died unexpectedly on March 17, and the cause of death has now been revealed.

According to the actor’s death certificate obtained by TMZ, he had two heart conditions: ischemic heart disease and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease.

According to the American Heart Association, ischemia is a condition where blood flow and oxygen is restricted or reduced in a part of the party.

As for atherosclerotic, it happens when “blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients from the heart to the rest of the body become thick and stiff,’ according to the Mayo Clinic.

The reports have however, since been disputed by Reddick’s family. A statement from attorney James Hornstein states that the report was “inconsistent with the facts known to the family.”

Lance Reddick was found dead in his home on March 17 while he was in the midst of promoting ‘John Wick: Chapter 4′.

“Acclaimed actor Lance Reddick passed away suddenly this morning from natural causes,” his reps shared in a statement.

“Lance was best known for his roles in ‘The Wire’, ‘Bosch’, Netflix’s ‘Resident Evil’ and the ‘John Wick’ films.

“He is survived by his wife Stephanie Reddick and children Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick. Lance will be greatly missed. Please respect his family’s privacy at this time.”

Reddick posted a video of himself and his dogs on Instagram just days before his death. It was around the time he was supposed to attend the New York City premiere of ‘John Wick: Chapter 4′.

Lance Reddick portrayed Charon, the concierge at the Continental Hotel in New York.

Fans were able to see Reddick’s final appearance in the film as Charon, an unassuming character who he turned into a fan favorite, in the latest ‘John Wick’ film, which was dedicated to his memory.

“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick,” said John Wick director Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves, who plays the titular character, in a joint statement to Deadline.

“He was the consummate professional and a joy to work with. Our love and prayers are with his wife Stephanie, his children, family and friends. We dedicate the film to his loving memory. We will miss him dearly.”
