This morning the French President, Emmanuel Macron, met with the chairperson of the African Union, Moussa Faki Mahamat. The meeting had them discuss future partnerships between France and the African continent. The African Union is made up of 51 countries and has a goal of developing closer partnerships among member states.
Macron will be traveling to Kenya from Addis Ababa where he will stay till Thursday. Part of his itinerary in Kenya is attending the Climate One Planet Summit. He will also be signing of contracts worth 3 billion Euros with the Kenyan leaders.
The Ethiopian Prime Minister received the French President at the Labilela buried churches’ site. The site is currently threatened and France has shown interest in providing assistance for its preservation. Several deals were signed by both leaders including support for the Ethiopian Navy in terms of training, air operations support, and provision of equipment.

President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti extended a hand of fellowship to French companies to invest in his country’s economy. He said this while addressing a joint press conference that had the French President in attendance. He also appreciated France for supporting Djibouti’s cause at the UN Security Council.
The French President is currently on a tour of three East African countries, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Djibouti. While in Ethiopia he commiserated with the leaders and people of the country over the fatal plane crash that claimed the lives of 157 passengers of whom 9 were French.
