Karen Kimani has been making headlines for the past few days after a video of her urging Kenyans to stop littering the beaches emerged online. In the video, Karen, who had visited the coastal region with her parents, is urging Kenyans to practice responsible behavior and do away with the many plastic bottles at the beach.

She notes, “I went to the beach with my family and we saw plastic all over… I do not like what they (some Kenyans) are doing. They are planting trees which are a good thing but they should also pay attention to the beaches and stop littering. The fish can eat the plastic and die.”

Karen has amazed Kenyans with her love for the environment with many claiming that she reminds them of the late Prof. Wangari Maathai. Back in school, Karen is a minister for environment where she has been working closely with Kenya’s environment cabinet secretary Keriako Tobiko.

Karen is also a model and has had the chance to represent Kenya in global platforms. In 2019, she took part in the Little Miss and Mr. United World held in Tenerife, Spain and took home a silver award. Karen is passionate about making the world a better place through Reducing, Reusing and Recycling plastic. Karen’s remarks come at a time when the world is fighting hard to overcome the negative impacts of climate change.
