Meet Nadia Takyiwaa Mensah: The Brain Behind the Famous Sai Wine & Champagne Café, a Multimillion Dollar Wine Business Started Through Divine Intervention
Nadia Takyiwaa Mensah is a woman of faith. In 2010, Nadia left a well-paying job in the UK and moved to Ghana, a country she had only visited three times as a young girl with her family. Surprisingly the young lady had a four months old son when she decided to take this step of faith. Asked why she decided to do this Nadia responds that, “The spirit led me”.
She notes, “I had a conversation with God. He said, `you have a choice”. Nine months after moving to Ghana, Nadia took another chance with God and started a marketing agency, Sixth Sense Manifesto. Today this is one of the most successful marketing agencies in the world.
Establishment of Sai Wine & Champagne Café
Nadia started the Sai Wine & Champagne café in 2015. Again this was after God spoke to her about transforming the wine industry in Ghana.
She notes,” I went on holiday to Harlem in the United States and my friend took me to a place in Harlem. It was this cute wine, bar, and café. As I was sitting there with him, I heard God say to me, ‘this is what you’re going to do next.’ I was like say what? ” And no, I was not drunk.”
Why the Name Sai
Nadia’s wine café name is inspired by her son, named Isaiah. “My son’s name is Isaiah and from his name I pulled out Sai,’ and God said, yes, that’s what you’re going to call it. I was trying to research the meaning of the name on Google and I kept getting the definition weapon. In my spirit I just knew that was not the meaning, and I remember God telling me that I would find out later.”
According to Nadia’s research team, Sai is a name used by Indians to refer to their spiritual leader. They refer to him as Sai Baba to mean ‘Glory to be to God’.
Growth of Sai Wine & Champagne Café in the Last Six Years
Since the opening of Sai wine and Champagne café, Ghana’s wine industry has undergone massive transformation. In 2015 when Nadia opened this café, Ghana only had one type of wine, i.e. the South African wine. This is not the case today as Ghana possesses wine shops from all over the world.
There is for instance a California, South African, Spanish, and an Italian wine shop in different towns of Ghana. There are also more wine tasting events in Ghana today than before.
Sai wine & champagne café is today the most sought out gathering wine spot in Accra.
