Missy Elliott has unquestionably had a lasting impression both in her native Virginia and the music industry. In her hometown, she just celebrated having a boulevard named after her.

Missy posted a picture of a street sign that reads “Missy Elliott Blvd.” on social media.

She expressed how much she valued the occasion and remarked;

“#757 VA…my Grandma who passed when I was young always told me to stay PRAYED UP & DREAM BIG! A Blvd. I’m crying Tears of Joy. I have been BLESSED so much but this right here hits my heart differently. I am so HUMBLY GRATEFUL to be from P-TOWN 2up2down. The ENTIRE VA.”

Hip Hop DX reports that the Portsmouth City Council unanimously approved renaming a street after the legendary producer/artist back in August.

Missy has received flowers over the past few years as she has been recognized for her efforts to the industry at various times.

Missy Elliott was admitted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019, as we previously reported. She also made history as the first female rapper to be admitted into the hall of fame thanks to the honor. She received the Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards in the same year. Additionally, she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last year.
