When Kelechi ‘Kaycee’ Madu moved to Canada about 22 years ago, no one would have thought he was going to one day run for office let alone become a member of parliament. What is most evident about his life is that he is a person with big dreams and he’s not afraid to push for them to become reality.
Madu, who ran under the umbrella of the United Conservative Party, won the elections to become a member of the Parliament representing Edmonton-South, Alberta. His opponent in this very close race was John Archer of the New Democrat Party
The 45-year-old is a graduate Law from the University of Lagos and is a native of Okrika Nweke, Imo State, Nigeria. This victory makes him the first Nigerian member of the Parliament in Alberta, Canada.
Africa Exponent reports his victory speech reads, “I am humbled and honored to be standing before you, no longer as a candidate, but as the MLA-elect for #yegsw … this is my home and Alberta’s capital city, and it deserves strong representation in the legislature.” #ableg #abvote
He and his wife migrated to Canada in 2005, following this, his wife gained admission to the University of Alberta for postgraduate studies. Madu has a background in employment law and civil litigation. He has worked in several capacities, including working under the Progressive Conservatives with the provincial government.
