Some days ago, the Nigerian superstar asked his friends to each donate 1 million Naira, ($2,500.00) as his birthday gift. It all seemed like a joke until all his fans donated what they had. Even celebrities all joined in sending monetary gifts to Davido. Apparently the singer has been generous to his friends and to repay his generosity, in less that 24 hours, he made over $500,000. But the super star had other plans.
The Afro beats star whose 29th birthday is on the 21st of November, took to Twitter to ask people he has given hit songs to send him money as he shared his bank account details. But in a space of just 5 minutes, he had received around $15,000 in donations.
Seeing that the donations were flowing in, he then threw in a challenge, saying he wanted ₦100,000,000 ($240,000) so he could clear his luxury Rolls Royce vehicle.
Seeing how determined his friends and fans were, Davido who said his initial post asking for donations was just a joke; however, admitted he was overwhelmed by the love that was being shown to him. “I’m speechless,” he shared with crying and laughing emojis alongside a screenshot of his account balance; which had gone upto $100,000 at the time.
Shortly after he received over $500,000 he speculated that he might give it all away, and he eventually did.
He stated that he has always been passionate about giving back and helping people and added that; “In view of this, I am delighted to announce that all funds received totalling 201 million naira; will be donated to orphanages across Nigeria as well as the Paroche foundation.
“In addition, I will be making a personal donation of N50 million bringing the total amount to N250 million.”
He also launched a committee to oversee the disbursement of the funds to beneficiaries. The 5 member panel includes Mrs Titi Adebayo as Chairman.
