The countries of the Caribbean are recognized for their tourist attraction abilities and St. Lucia have just smashed their number of visitors’ record of 2017. Taking stock of the number of tourists received in the country in 2018 alone, the country had 1,218,294 visitors which is 10.2% higher than the record set in 2017.

The different sectors of the tourism industry have also received a boost from the figures recorded. The yachting sector had the highest increase at 25.9% followed by the cruising sector with 13.1%, and the stay-over arrivals increasing at 2.2%. All of these figures are indeed remarkable as it shows that the country’s investment in tourism is beginning to pay off massively.

The Tourism Minister announced these figures at a conference and reiterated that the country had taken steps to ensure that St/ Lucia’s tourism products can compete with the best in the world. Records show that the country is generating a lot of income from the US and the UK even though income generation from Canada dipped a little. This is can be traced to the reduced frequency of WestJet flights and lack of service from Transat Tours.

It is projected that St. Lucia’s tourism sector will do far better and smash the newly set records in 2019. Congratulations to St. Lucia on their new record.
