The US Vice President has in a statement said that the visas of more prominent Venezuelans will be revoked by the United States. He gave the reason for this as a drastic measure that needed to be taken to mount pressure on the Venezuelan President, Nicholas Maduro, to resign.
VP Mike Pence said the US was prepared to revoke a total of 77 visas which were held by prominent members of the Maduro-led government or people related to them. Only last week 49 visas were revoked by the US government. This was part of a set of multiple campaigns to see Maduro give up power to the opposition leader, Juan Guaido.
More 50 governments from around the world believe Maduro shouldn’t be on the seat and Guaido should be interim president. According to them, Maduro was never re-elected to office legitimately since there was no permission given for the opposition to run.
A warning was issued to financial institutions who might be involved in conducting illegal transactions with Maduro’s government. The warning was issued by John Bolton, the US national security adviser. He said that such institutions will be sanctioned.
