Talented playwright, actor, director, and screenwriter, Tyler Perry has announced that he is putting an end to the iconic character, Madea. The actor made the announcement late last year when he told the world that he would be having the last movie and tour with the character in the first quarter of 2019.

The iconic Madea-character made its debut on the big screen in 2005 in the movie “Diary of a Mad Black Woman.” The movie was a film adaptation of Perry’s play with the same title. The movie went on to earn over $50 million on the Box Office.

Last, of the Madea series, Madea’s Family Funeral was released to the cinemas earlier today. The storyline has Madea and the rest of her family reunite in Georgia for a funeral which ended up bringing to life so many dead secrets. Perry was in an interview with Jill Munroe in which he discussed putting Madea to pasture and what he will miss about the character.

Perry confessed that he wouldn’t miss the character as much as he would miss the affection and care of the fans towards the character. When asked about his disposition to news changes to comedy standards, Perry said he had never done anything out of spite. According to him, all he did with Madea was out of love, not hurt or contempt.

Asides stopping the Madea series, this is also the last collaboration Perry will be having with Lionsgate. He has already signed a deal with Viacom to produce content on all platforms.
