Two gorillas in the Virunga National Park of DR Congo made the news last week when a viral photo of them posing in a picture taken by their caretakers was uploaded on social media.

The selfies, which was taken Senkwekwe Sanctuary, a location on the park, showed the female gorillas named Ndeze and Ndakazi posing along with their caretakers, Patrick and Mathieu. It was posted online last Thursday and the picture credit goes to Mathieu Shamavu, one of the caretakers.

Since being posted the selfies has attracted 23,000 shares and 30,000 reactions. Some people thought the picture must have been photoshopped so Virunga Park had to repost the picture and explain that it was real. Both gorillas have been described as being able to imitate their caretakers, a practice they learned overtime, having spent all their life at the park since when they were first found at four-months-old.

Virunga National Park is a UNESCO heritage site and is still seeking for funds to improve its services and cater for most of the endangered species on the continent.
