Last Friday, R. Kelly was slammed a 10-count charge for sexual assault and other related offenses. A few hours afterward, the R n B singer turned himself in at a Chicago Police Station. The singer is expected to appear in court for a bail hearing on Saturday while he will be arraigned on March 8.
Kelly might be facing between 3 to 7 years in prison for each count if found guilty. The incidents for which he is being charged occurred between 1998 and 2010. Out of the ten, three of the alleged victims were minors though in the press conference and on the legal documents they were identified by just their initials.
Kelly was indicted after a sex tape involving the singer surfaced earlier in the week. The tape featured the singer engaging in sexual acts with a minor. To this effect a jury was set up in Cook County to look into the case, two women also testified before the jury earlier in the week. This is not the first time the musician is facing such accusations, despite these he hasn’t been convicted.
The singer faced loads of criticisms after the docu-series, Surviving R. Kelly, was aired earlier in the year. He, however, denied all the accusations vehemently and his advocate said he was only charged because the State Attorney of Cook County, Kim Foxx, had been pressured.
