YouTube has proposed to shut down the comment section for videos showing both young and old minors. The reason for this is to reduce the risk of attracting pedophiles and predatory behavior. In a statement issued by the company, the decision was made to fight off predatory action by certain viewers. These include scandalous comments that could hurt the underage kids.

Only a week ago a report by TechCrunch was affirmed that a soft-core pedophile ring existed. The ring was said to have constantly utilized YouTube’s platform and comment section to disseminate videos of minors. The ring achieved its aim by using the company’s search algorithms.

Matt Watson, a creator on YouTube had announced on Reddit that he had seen tons of kids’ videos that had attracted unwanted, malicious comments on the platform. Watson went ahead to denounce the company after bashing it for its failure to curb the actions of the pedophile ring on its platform.

Several companies using YouTube’s platform for advertising their products have also aired their anger at the recent occurrence. A few including Disney, McDonald’s, Epic Games, and Fortnite Maker, had even pulled off their adverts from the platform. To this effect, the company has announced that it has taken steps to fix the problem at hand. According to them, it might take a few months to fix the challenge by rolling out the necessary tools.

Already, YouTube has shut down certain channels that have been seen as detrimental to kids. Most notable among these is FilthyFrankClips.
