Sometime in 2017, it was reported that Grace Mugabe, former Zimbabwean first lady, and wife to Robert Mugabe, had assaulted a young South African model. Fast forward over a year and a warrant of arrest has been issued by a Johannesburg court against the former first lady.

Zimbabwean authorities have however responded to the situation saying they are not ready to extradite their former first lady to South African authorities. A letter was written to the court that issued the arrest warrant by the Zimbabwean Deputy Minister in charge of Information. In his letter, he stated that the Zimbabwean government seeks that South Africa extradites Grace Mugabe.

Energy Mutodi went further to express the displeasure of the Zimbabwean government at the situation and that the country will in no way allow for her ex-first lady to be embarrassed or treated in an uncomely manner by another country. In his letter, he also expressed disappointment at the South African authorities for reopening a case that was thought closed by Zimbabwe.

The warrant was issued on December 13 for injuries caused by Grace Mugabe on Gabriella Engels, a 21-year-old South African model sometime in 2017. It was said that the ex-first lady had attacked Engels with the cord of an electric extension while at a hotel in Sandton. The model suffered cuts to both her forehead and the back of her head from the attack.
