According to police, the 2-year-old daughter of Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett drowned in the family’s swimming pool on Sunday.
Officers were dispatched to Barrett’s home in the Beach Park neighborhood of south Tampa shortly before 9:30 a.m. after receiving a call that a child had fallen into a pool. Arrayah, the football player’s youngest child, was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
“The investigation is ongoing,” the police report said. “It is not believed to be suspicious in nature at this time, but a purely accidental and tragic incident.”
30 year old Shaquil Barrett, and his wife, Jordanna, have three other children.
“Today’s tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time,” the Buccaneers said in a statement.

“While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this,” the team added, “we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah.”
Shaquil Barrett, who is recovering from a torn Achilles that kept him out for the second half of last season, is in his fifth season with the Buccaneers after starting his career with the Denver Broncos.
Barrett led the NFL in sacks with 1912 in 2019. He helped the Buccaneers win the Super Bowl the following season.
Earlier this month Shaquil Barrett posted a series of photos of his daughter on Instagram to celebrate her second birthday.
“Happy 2nd bday to my cutie girl. So sweet and cute. You made our family complete. I love you baby girl,” Barrett wrote.
