I squinted my eyes to understand what the test strip revealed about my pregnancy status. The lines on it were very faint and I became confused.
I checked the leaflet of the pregnancy kit for instructions. It said, faint lines meant invalid result. I contemplated using the remaining two or wait till morning as it is said that early morning urine was more effective. I decided to wait until next morning. The tossing on my bed that night was unnatural. I could not sleep at a stretch.
Then the nightmares set in. I dreamt that my belly grew into five big trees and lots of children hung on it. The pregnancy nightmares jolted me awake and I checked the time. I could wait no more. Although it felt like I had been sleeping for 30 minutes, I was relieved that it was 6.am in the morning.
I spent the next 45 minutes forcing out urine from my bladder. For reasons known only to Mother Nature, my bladder seemed close for the day. I could not pee. After drinking liters of water, I managed to squirt out a milliliter or two of urine.
The urine though small, managed to serve its purpose. I used both pregnancy kits. I paced around the bathroom as I waited like a man waiting on his wife in the labor room.
The results got me rolling on the floor in triumph. The two pregnancy kits showed only one line. I was not pregnant! Due to my incessant Previous worries; I forgot that I had to Resume my work the next day. But after I certified myself pregnancy free, I could now face my work ordeals.
I took myself out, bought a lot of junk food and indulged in all the things I had missed out on, the weeks I was in cell.
After indulging in all the fun I deserved, I decided that I’ll step into my work as the Undefeated Queen. One month suspension would not break me. Therefore, I dressed up in the most sophisticated work clothes. And prepared to meet the board of directors.
As I walked into my office, I felt all the eyes on me as I held my chin up.
A lady was sitting on my chair, at my desk. I was taken aback. After about a minute of standing and staring at her, the manager walked up to me and said “Hello Ene, there has been some changes, please come with me”.
