The Grammy nominations for 2020 are out, and we are having a lot of positive frenzy on the 62nd GRAMMY Awards nominees especially in regards to our black Kings and Queens nominated in different Best categories;
Best New Artist
- Black Puma—Austin neo-soul duo Black Pumas, a.k.a. GRAMMY-winning producer and multi-instrumentalist Adrian Quesada and singer/songwriter Eric Burton.
- Lil Nas X—20-year-old country-rapper Lil Nas X took off this year with his viral hit “Old Town Road”.
- Lizzo—Lizzo’s feel-good, relatable pop songs are everywhere.
- Tank and The Bangas—New Orleans-based group Tank And The Bangas have a sound influenced by their hometown, blending hip-hop, jazz, funk, soul and even a little bit rock.
- Yola—The spirit and soul of Yola’s breakout Dan Auerbach-produced album Walk Through Fire was nothing if not well-earned.
Record of the year
- Talk—Khalid;The catchy electro-R&B track was produced by electronic wunderkids Disclosure and Denis Kosiak, who thus share the Record Of The Year nod.
- Old Town Road—Lil Nas X;His breakout hit, “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, is up for Record Of The Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video.
- Truth Hurts—Lizzy;Rapper/singer/flautist/twerk queen Lizzo has earned her first-ever GRAMMY nominations this year, rounding up eight total nods.
- Hard Place—H.E.R; Following her first-ever nominations and two winsat the 61st GRAMMYs in February, R&B songstress/guitarist H.E.R. dropped another emotive track, “Hard Place,” on April 26.
Album of the Year
- I Used To Know Her—H.E.R—The album comprised songs from the singer’s EPs I Used to Know Her: The Prelude (2018) and I Used to Know Her: Part 2 (2018). It also included five additional songs, as well as extended editions of the songs “Going”, “Be On My Way” and “The Lord is Coming.”
- 7–Lil Nas X—7 is the debut EP from 20-year-old rapper/singer Lil Nas X. Released on June 21, 2019, via Columbia Records, 7was preceded by the ubiquitous chart-topper “Old Town Road” and its remix featuring country icon Billy Ray Cyrus.
- Cuz I Love You—Lizzo—The third studio album and debut major label LP by flute-playing rapper/singer Lizzo was released through Nice Life and Atlantic Records on April 19, 2019.
Best Pop Solo Performance
- Beyoncé—Spirit—Written for the major motion picture “The Lion King: The Gift,” “Spirit” is a collaboration with Lebo M. and Hans Zimmer, who also scored the film, and features Queen B’s signature soaring, melismatic vocal complete with falsetto breakdown bridge, gospel choir and dramatic key change.
- Lizzo—Truth Hurts—Originally released in September 2017, “Truth Hurts” (written by Lizzo, Jesse Saint John, Tele and Ricky Reed) found new life in 2019 after going viral on TikTok.
