The death of George Floyd has undoubtedly sparked a global response. The pain of his death stroke a chord that has been resounding throughout the world. Days ago, protesters in Nigeria Stormed the U.S Embassy to protest the killings of blacks in the United States. Furthermore, the grief of the death of Mr Floyd prompted a memorial service held by the Ghanaian Government in the memory of George Floyd.

The Ghanaian Government and the Year of Return Committee in partnership with the African Union of Diaspora Forum; laid wreaths in Accra in memory of George Floyd at the DuBois Centre in Accra.
This follows a petition sent to the U.S. Embassy on June 1 calling for the safety of members of the black community in the United States.
The Minister for Tourism, Mrs Barbara Oteng Gyasi; called on all africans both on the continent and in the diaspora to take a cue from George Floyd’s death and unite to ensure the growth and development of the continent.
The event was attended by several government officials including; former president, Jerry John Rawlings, who took to the stage to deliver a touching tribute to George Floyd.

George Floyd was an African-American man who died on 25th May 2020 in Powderhorn, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, following police arrest. Video recording by a witness, showing Floyd repeating “Please”, “I can’t breathe”, and “Don’t kill me”, was widely circulated on social media platforms and broadcast by media. The incident led to widespread protests across the United States.
