Just six months after being convicted of domestic assault and harassment, Jonathan Majors received the Perseverance Award at the annual Impact Awards on Friday night in Beverly Hills. The Hollywood Unlocked honored the actor for his resilience despite recent challenges.
“I’m imperfect. I have shortcomings — I acknowledge them,” Majors said, fighting back tears during his heartfelt acceptance speech. He was presented the award by renowned self-help guru and inspirational speaker Iyanla Vanzant.
The emotional moment followed a sizzle reel showcasing some of Majors’ career highs and personal lows, including his roles in “Creed III” and “Lovecraft Country.” The actor received a standing ovation from the star-studded crowd, led by Hollywood Unlocked founder Jason Lee.
Majors had consistently denied all allegations during his 19-day trial but was sentenced in April to one year of domestic violence counseling. A New York judge mandated that he complete a 52-week, in-person program in Los Angeles, where he currently resides.
Reflecting on his experience during the awards ceremony, Majors was tearful. “Perseverance means what?” he said. “Perseverance means persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay. And the God I serve has put me in a position where I’ve had to embody that word more than I wished or wanted.”

He continued, “We live in a world where men, Black men in particular, are propped up as either superheroes or supervillains. But I’ve come to realize, me, personally, I ain’t none of that. … I’m just that guy whose faith has been tested. It has been strengthened by this testimony.”
Majors’ legal troubles significantly impacted his career trajectory. He was initially slated to star as Kang the Conqueror in the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following his appearances in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “Loki.” However, he was dropped from all future MCU films on the day of the verdict.
Other movie roles, including a high-profile project where he was to portray Dennis Rodman, also vanished. Additionally, he was dropped by his manager at Entertainment 360 and his publicity firm, the Lede Company, after his March 2023 arrest, though he remains represented by talent agency WME.
In a testament to the perseverance highlighted by his award, it was announced on Thursday that Majors landed the lead role in Martin Villeneuve’s revenge thriller “Merciless,” his first new project since the conviction.
Majors’ journey reflects a complex blend of professional highs and personal challenges, underscoring his resilience and determination to overcome adversity. As he continues to navigate his path, his story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of perseverance and personal growth.
