As the year 2020 winds up, awards and reality shows of different genres and categories are beginning to resuscitate back fully with special recognition in music, drama, comedy, etc; to wrap up a year coloured with lots of terrible news!
Republic of Congo star, Ace Wayé has won the 2020 edition of the Prix Découvertes RFI. 10 finalists were chosen from Africa; but Ace Wayé’s talent for writing lyrics in French, English and Lingala gave him an upper hand and he walked away with 10,000 euros, a chance to travel all around the African continent and a show in Paris.
Fakoly (Côte d’Ivoire), Didier Awadi (Sénégal), Amadou et Mariam (Mali), Soul Bang’s (Guinée). The singer Céline Banza from the Democratic Republic of Congo won the previous 2019 edition.
The winner of this prestigious award goes home with a whooping sum of 10,000 euros, an African tour and a concert in Paris; Ace Wayé really got a huge one!
Previous winners have become international stars, like Tiken JaFI and its partners and also offer career mentoring to the successors.
Prix découvertes RFI is the French-speaking African version of the reality singing competition, RFI Discovery Prize, and was created in 1981 to highlight new musical talents from Africa each year.
This show has featured artists such as Tiken Jah Fakoly, Mav Cacharel, Rokia Traoré, Didier Awadi, Amadou and Mariam, Canjo Amissi or Maurice Kirya.
The judging panel is made up of industry professionals, and is each year chaired by notable personalities such as Jacob Desvarieux, Youssou N’Dour, Angélique Kidjo, Passi, Kery James, Richard Bona, A’salfo, and Fally Ipupa.
