Cal Murray, a dedicated UPS driver from Houston, Texas, has made history by spending the last 50 years delivering packages without a single accident. In his impressive career, Murray has driven a remarkable 4 million miles safely, a feat he attributes to UPS’s unwavering commitment to safety training.
Murray remarked, “The company’s commitment to safety training is what has kept me safe. UPS invests a lot of time and money to give us the tools we need to be successful — and it pays off.” Proud of his spotless record, he added, “We are the safest drivers on the road.”
In 2023, UPS increased its safety training investment to over $409 million, $66 million more than the previous year. This significant commitment ensures UPS drivers, including Murray, are well-prepared to navigate the challenges posed by increased traffic and distracted drivers. “I drive one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in the U.S. and see accidents on a weekly basis,” Murray said. “Dealing with other drivers on the road can be a challenge. You have to drive not only for yourself but also for others.”

These exceptional drivers proudly wear the UPS Circle of Honor patch, symbolizing their outstanding achievement.
As he celebrates 50 years of safe driving, Murray continues to mentor younger drivers, sharing the valuable insights he has gained over decades on the road. “I observe drivers daily and point out what they are doing right and where they can improve,” he said. “I want them to be as safe as possible and return home to their families.”
Murray’s dedication and exemplary safety record not only highlight his personal commitment but also underscore the effectiveness of UPS’s comprehensive safety training programs, setting a benchmark for drivers everywhere.
