Two buses, each carrying over 50 passengers, are reported to have collided around Ghana’s middle belt region. The accident was fatal resulting in the death of over 50 people. The accident occurred in Ampoma in the Bono East Region in the early hours of Friday.
The accident which occurred on Kintampo Techiman road saw both buses engage in a head-on collision. To make matters worse one of the buses caught fire almost immediately after the collision. The regional police responded quickly to the situation and rescue operations are already underway. The affected road is one of the busiest in the country as it connects two regions of Ghana.
One of the buses involved in the accident is owned by VVIP, one of the biggest long-distance companies in Ghana. Ghanaian roads have received a huge facelift so they have not been the cause of accidents in recent times. Most Ghanaian passengers prefer traveling through the night so the traffic is almost as much as the day time.
The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained as the police continue investigations.
